What is our mission as a Canadian news publisher?

Our mission is to deliver trustworthy Canadian journalism that helps readers understand complex issues without spin or oversimplification. Civic Maple provides clear, practical coverage of Canadian news, politics, business, technology, culture, and public-interest stories for English-speaking readers in Canada and internationally. We aim to be a reliable source for explainers that break down complicated topics into accessible, accurate information, always rooted in evidence and balanced reporting.

What topics do we cover?

We cover the full spectrum of Canadian public-interest journalism. Our reporting spans federal and provincial politics, economic policy, business developments, technology trends, and the cost of living. Our Culture & Society section explores lifestyle, arts, and social issues. We also produce in-depth explainers on public-policy questions, regulatory changes, and civic processes. Every topic is approached with the goal of helping our audience make informed decisions about the issues that affect their daily lives.

How do we ensure our journalism is trustworthy?

Every article published on Civic Maple is drafted by a named writer, reviewed by an editor, and fact-checked before publication. Our editorial process is detailed in our Editorial Policy and Fact-Checking Policy. We employ named correspondents with subject-matter expertise: Thomas Fraser covers politics and public policy; Amelia Patel reports on business and the economy; Sophie Chen edits culture and society coverage; and Oliver Bennett leads all fact-checking, source verification, and corrections. AI-assisted tools may support research, drafting, formatting, or summarization, but every published piece is reviewed and approved by a human editor. Our AI & Automation Policy explicitly prohibits AI from fabricating quotes, sources, interviews, bylines, or expert profiles.

How is Civic Maple funded and how do we stay transparent?

Our revenue comes from display advertising, affiliate links, commercial partnerships, sponsored content, newsletter sponsorships, and content licensing. All sponsored or commercial material is clearly labelled, and affiliate links are disclosed in accordance with Canadian advertising standards. Commercial relationships never determine editorial conclusions. Full details are available in our Advertising & Affiliate Disclosure and Ownership & Funding pages. We maintain an Complaints Procedure for readers who wish to raise concerns about our content or practices.
